The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), a non-government body that represents top telcos in India, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), has issued an urgent statement alerting users about particular links and messages offering free recharge plans. The telecom body has asked users to refrain from clicking on such links and messages. Such messages are making rounds in social media, saying that the Indian government is offering 100 million users free recharge plans for online studies....

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has reappointed Ajay Puri, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Bharti Airtel, as the Chairman of the industry body for the FY2021-22. Further, according to a PTI report, the President of Reliance Jio Infocomm, Pramod Kumar Mittal, has been reappointed as the Vice Chairman of the industry association. For the unaware, COAI is an industry body that represents multiple telecom operators from and outside India, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea and more....

Vodafone Idea has a debt of around Rs 1.2 lakh crore. Spectrum-related payments account for 80% of the current net debt of the company. “There is enough lever with the government. If the government believes in Digital India, they will have to believe in this (telecom sector) being a critical infrastructure and play on bringing the health of the sector back,” Sharma said. He also said competition in the market is expected to rationalise as the sector has reached the optimum level of competition....
