Bharti Airtel is slowing reducing the dependency on Chinese telecom gear makers and replacing them with other alternatives available in the market. As reported by ET Telecom, Bharti Airtel is planning to replace Chinese telecom gear maker Huawei with Swedish Telecom gear maker Ericsson for its 4G expansion and modernisation plan in the Rest of Tamil Nadu circle. Since the government has barred Chinese telecom gear makers from supplying equipment to state-owned telcos BSNL and MTNL, private telcos are slowly inclining towards different suppliers....

The wait for 5G services for BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) customers won’t be that long. BSNL will start offering 5G services in India as early as August 15th of next year, according to Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who made the announcement at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022 in New Delhi. According to a report by ET Telcom, the 5G services offered by BSNL will be based on domestically created technology and will compete with Jio and Airtel’s 5G....

The employee association of the state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has demanded that the management has to withdraw the proposal for organisational restructuring. According to the Forum of BSNL Executives Associations, the proposed structure will prove detrimental to the career progression of the executives. The associations termed the new structuring ‘a serious obstacle to fulfilling the actual requirement of running the organisation smoothly and efficiently.’ In the proposed restructuring, the number of posts is allegedly reduced, which will affect the employees waiting for the next promotional cycle....

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Employees Union (EU) on Tuesday announced its intentions to organize “black flag” demonstrations during the lunch hour on July 16. The BSNLEU said that the demonstration is being held against the cancellation of BSNL 4G tender along with “the road blocks being created in the rolling out of BSNL’s 4G services.” Additionally, the main recognized union in BSNL has also listed other demands including the timely payment of salaries....

Reliance Jio and BSNL both offer a 90 days 4G prepaid plan to their customers. While BSNL has been offering its 90 days plan for a long-time now, Jio’s entry in the segment is fairly new. Reliance Jio has started offering new plans with 15, 30, 60, 90, and 365 days validities. The interesting thing is, BSNL’s 90 days 4G plan is significantly cheaper than that of Jio’s. Reliance Jio’s 90 days plan comes for Rs 597, while BSNL’s 90 days plan comes for Rs 499....

BSNL Assets Highly Undervalued “It is astonishing to note that in the name of monetisation of lands, for the purpose of making BSNL a debt-free company, BSNL’s land are being transferred to the SPV at a “throwaway price,” BSNL Employees Union said in a letter to the telecom secretary. The union said that the market value of the 63 land parcels identified for transfer to SPV is very high. However, these are being transferred at a “dirt-cheap price” in the name of book value....

Reliance Jio, India’s largest telecom operator, is all set to launch 5G network services. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Reliance Industries Limited, had announced that Jio’s 5G networks would arrive in four cities by this Diwali - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. These four cities will just be the start, but then, by December 2023, Jio promises to cover most of India with its 5G SA (standalone) networks....
